  This project aims at unravelling the function of zinc and of two probiotics, E. faecium and transgenic E. coli Nissle 1917 (AvCystatin-expressing EcN), in the diversity and dynamics of intestinal E. coli populations. The occurrence of pathogenic and commensal E. coli clones will be defined in vivo (pig model, pig-flora-associated mouse model) and in vitro. The expression of E. coli genes (haemolysin, systems, adhesins) will be compared with colonization success to understand the dynamics of the intestinal E. coli. We will also seek to elucidate the influence of AvCystatin-expressing EcN on immune responses in pigs.
